This is a continuing link to many other articles that I have published regarding the subject of Learning to Play Golf Better . The subject of this article I am posting now is “The Secret to Power and Distance from Your Golf Swing”. There are going to be many more posted articles coming that you can learn from and apply in your golf game to achieve immediate success.
Before I get started with describing what I know to be the “Secret to Power”, I would like to give you something that comes with a FREE gift included… This is NOT even available in stores! NOW when you purchase a Medicus driver, you will receive a FREE trial membership to Medicus Video with hundreds of videos and live interactive webinars taught by top instructors and golf professionals! Not bad, huh?
I have used the Medicus 5 iron that they first developed to help me figure out where my swing was breaking down and where I was losing some power. It definitely works! So I highly recommend taking advantage of this limited time offer from the developers of the #1 Best Selling Golf Training Aid ever made.
If you just practice with the Medicus for only 10 minutes per day, you will see great improvement in your form and performance. (Just click on the Medicus link right here…)
So, now that I have offered you a special gift to help you develop your swing even more; What do you think is the “Secret to Power” in the golf swing? When I ask people this question that are even single digit handicap players they reply in a myriad of ways including…
1) The wrist release
2) How strong your grip is on the club
3) (duh) How fast you swing 😀
4) How fast you swing your arms
5) How fast you turn your hips through impact
And… Many other “opinions” which may have a kernel of truth in them, but which all don’t get down to the Heart of the Issue. The Heart of the Issue is: What Single Factor has the most direct impact upon the power and distance that you can achieve as a result of your impact with the ball? That’s the meat and potatoes of what we are focusing in on in this discussion.
OK, are you ready?…
The Single Most Influential Skill that affects your power and distance is TEMPO. Now, I know what you may be thinking …. What is Tempo? If you are taking the club back on your swing, just say “one”. Then when you contact the ball, just say “two”. Measuring your tempo is as easy as counting to yourself, “One,…Two”.
Now if your tempo is One……………………………………………………………………………….Two, do you think you will hit the ball farther or shorter than if your tempo is One………………………..Two? If you answered that you would most likely hit the ball farther with the second tempo, then you are correct.
Of course, there are other factors that will have a small influence on distance (even including the type of equipment that you are using). But, from my experience over 40 years of teaching not only as a Golf Professional but also teaching as a Tennis Professional, tempo is the MOST important concept a person must grasp and be able to control in their swing in order to get more distance and/or power.
So, that’s it for now. As I said before, there will be more information coming later. Check out some of the other articles I have posted here on this webpage if you like. I welcome any comments or suggestions/opinions that you may have which may contribute to the overall database of information I am publishing here. You can just simply “Leave a Reply” below on any article you read here.
Thanks and Have a Great Day,
